Kris Bryant
Kris Bryant Out of lineup again Friday
Fri, Apr 4, 2025, 9:07 AM
Bryant is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.
Analysis: It's the second straight day on the bench for Bryant, who is just 1-for-14 with six strikeouts in the early going this season. Hunter Goodman is in the designated hitter spot Friday and Jacob Stallings is doing the catching.
Brenton Doyle
Brenton Doyle First extra-base knock
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 8:14 PM
Doyle went 1-for-5 with a double and a strikeout in Thursday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: Doyle has been a relative bright spot in the Colorado lineup and now has hits in four of his last six games. He doesn't have much to show for it, however, as he has yet to score a run and has only one RBI. Doyle's double Thursday was also his first extra-base hit of the campaign.
Ezequiel Tovar
Ezequiel Tovar Slow start to campaign
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 8:05 PM
Tovar went 0-for-4 and was caught stealing Thursday against the Phillies.
Analysis: The Rockies' offense has gotten off to a slow start this season, and Tovar has been a significant reason why. He's now failed to record a hit in three straight starts and is just 3-for-24 overall. Positively, the team will begin a six-game homestand Friday, so Tovar should have the chance to turn things around.
Antonio Senzatela
Antonio Senzatela Falls to Phillies
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 6:37 PM
Senzatela (0-1) took the loss against the Philies on Thursday, allowing one unearned run on 10 hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.
Analysis: Only one of the Phillies' 10 hits against Senzatela went for extra bases, allowing the right-hander to remarkably escape without giving up an earned run. However, the Rockies were held scoreless until the ninth inning, sticking Senzatela with his first loss. Senzatela has yet to allow an earned run through his first two starts (9.2 innings) despite giving up 19 hits. He'll hope that luck continues in his next start, currently scheduled for next week at home against the Brewers.
Kyle Farmer
Kyle Farmer Not in starting nine
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 8:45 AM
Farmer is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Philadelphia.
Analysis: Farmer has been the Rockies' primary second baseman while Thairo Estrada (wrist) is recuperating, but he'll begin Thursday's matinee on the bench. Tyler Freeman is at the keystone and batting ninth for Colorado.
Jordan Beck
Jordan Beck Sitting again Thursday
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 8:43 AM
Beck is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: Beck will hit the bench for the second day in a row while the Rockies hand Mickey Moniak another start in left field after he went 1-for-2 at the dish in Wednesday's 5-1 loss. Through five games on the season, Beck has stolen two bags in as many attempts but has struggled at the plate, going 2-for-13 with five strikeouts against two walks. The Rockies could end up moving the right-handed-hitting Beck into the short side of a platoon with the lefty-hitting Moniak, though manager Bud Black hasn't clarified his plans for left field moving forward.
Kris Bryant
Kris Bryant Absent from Thursday's lineup
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 8:42 AM
Bryant is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Philadelphia.
Analysis: It's a routine day off for Bryant, who is in a 1-for-14 skid to start off the season. The Rockies are going with Hunter Goodman at designated hitter and Jacob Stallings at catcher in Thursday's series finale.
Tyler Freeman
Tyler Freeman In Thursday's lineup
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 8:40 AM
Freeman (wrist) will start at second base and bat ninth in Thursday's game versus the Phillies.
Analysis: Freeman hasn't played since being hit on the left wrist by a pitch in Sunday's game versus the Rays, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in Thursday's series finale. It's the second start this season for the former Guardian.
Austin Gomber
Austin Gomber Scratched from rehab start
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 6:22 PM
Gomber was scratched from his scheduled rehab start at Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday due to left shoulder inflammation, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Gomber began the season on the 15-day IL due to left shoulder soreness, so the fact that he's now dealing with inflammation in that area is a bit concerning. He'll presumably be re-evaluated to see if he suffered any structural damage after making his first rehab outing Friday, and it now seems unlikely that the 31-year-old southpaw will be able to return to Colorado after a minimum-length stay on the injured list.
Michael Toglia
Michael Toglia Drops to sixth in order
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 3:01 PM
Toglia will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: The first baseman began the season as the Rockies' No. 5 hitter, but he's been bumped down a spot for the last two contests while Colorado has moved the hot-hitting Hunter Goodman up in the lineup. Toglia has gotten off to a slow start to the season, going 1-for-15 with eight strikeouts through the Rockies' first four games.
Jordan Beck
Jordan Beck Day off Wednesday
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 12:35 PM
Beck is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Philadelphia.
Analysis: The Phillies are starting right-hander Zack Wheeler, so it's not a bad day for Beck to receive a day of rest. Mickey Moniak will start in left field and bat ninth for the Rockies.
Thairo Estrada
Thairo Estrada Begins season on IL
Tue, Apr 1, 2025, 11:11 AM
The Rockies placed Estrada (wrist) on the 10-day injured list Thursday retroactive to March 24.
Analysis: After suffering a non-displaced fractured right wrist when he was hit by a pitch in a Cactus League game March 20, Estrada is likely to require 4-to-8 weeks of recovery time. With Estrada on the shelf, Kyle Farmer has started at second base in three of the Rockies' first four games, while Tyler Freeman has manned the keystone in the other contest.
Jeff Criswell
Jeff Criswell Opens season on IL
Tue, Apr 1, 2025, 11:07 AM
The Rockies placed Criswell (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Analysis: Criswell is slated to miss the entire 2025 season and likely the early part of the 2026 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery March 14. He'll likely be shifted to the 60-day IL later on in the season when Colorado needs to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for another player.
Austin Gomber
Austin Gomber Strikes out five in rehab start
Tue, Apr 1, 2025, 11:05 AM
Gomber (shoulder) struck out five batters and allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks over four innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
Analysis: While tending to a sore left shoulder in spring training, Gomber didn't have enough time to get fully stretched out in advance of the Rockies' season opener and was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, but he was cleared to take the hill for Colorado's Triple-A affiliate on Opening Day. He tossed 66 pitches (39 strikes) in the rehab start, so he may need just one more tune-up outing with the Triple-A club Wednesday before getting the green light to return from the IL next week.
German Marquez
German Marquez Delivers scoreless outing
Mon, Mar 31, 2025, 9:29 PM
Marquez allowed four hits over six shutout innings during a no-decision against the Phillies on Monday. He struck out four during the loss.
Analysis: Marquez looked sharp through six scoreless frames and left the contest in line for a win before Philadelphia's bats caught fire against the Rockies' bullpen. The veteran righty threw 52 of 83 pitches for strikes and gave up two extra-base knocks. It was Marquez's first scoreless start since Aug. 28, 2022, as he made just five total starts between the 2023 and 2024 campaigns. He's currently in line to face the Athletics at home this weekend.
Sam Hilliard
Sam Hilliard Passes through waivers
Mon, Mar 31, 2025, 1:12 PM
The Rockies outrighted Hilliard to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday.
Analysis: Hilliard appeared to be in good position to make the Rockies' Opening Day roster but was ultimately designated for assignment last week, when Colorado signed Mickey Moniak to a one-year deal to round out its depth in the outfield. Though he turned in a 107 wRC+ over 158 plate appearances in the majors with Colorado in 2024, Hilliard's lack of minor-league options likely worked against him in landing a spot on another team's 40-man roster. After clearing waivers, Hilliard will remain in the Colorado organization and will head to Triple-A while he waits for another opportunity in the big leagues.
Tyler Freeman
Tyler Freeman Nursing sore wrist
Mon, Mar 31, 2025, 11:39 AM
Freeman is tending to a sore left wrist after being hit by a pitch in the sixth inning of Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Rays, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Making his first start of the season Sunday, Freeman played second base and grounded out in his first at-bat in the top of the third inning before taking his base on the hit-by-pitch in the sixth. Freeman came around to score a game-tying run and then went back out in the field for the bottom of the sixth, but he was lifted for a pinch hitter the next time his turn in the batting order came up in the top of the seventh. Fortunately for Freeman, X-rays on his wrist came back negative, but he's considered day-to-day while he waits for the soreness and swelling to subside. Kyle Farmer will start at second base in Monday's series opener in Philadelphia.
Nick Martini
Nick Martini Out of lineup Monday
Mon, Mar 31, 2025, 9:39 AM
Martini is absent from the lineup for Monday's game in Philadelphia.
Analysis: Martini started all three games in the weekend series versus the Rays, but he'll take a seat in the series opener against the Phillies and lefty Cristopher Sanchez. Sean Bouchard is drawing the start in right field.
Ryan Feltner
Ryan Feltner Notches five Ks in no-decision
Sun, Mar 30, 2025, 8:52 PM
Feltner did not factor into the decision in Sunday's loss at Tampa Bay, pitching five innings while allowing two runs on four hits and one walk. He struck out five.
Analysis: The Colorado right-hander allowed both runs on a homer to Brandon Lowe in the first inning but settled in after that, yielding just two hits over his next 4.1 innings. Feltner managed to generate a solid 13 whiffs across 83 total pitches, as his fastball averaged 94.2 mph, down slightly from 94.6 mph last season. Most importantly, after posting a 6.8 BB/9 in 14.2 spring innings, he issued just one free pass in this appearance. Feltner is currently slated to make his next start against the Athletics at home next weekend.
Kris Bryant
Kris Bryant Getting afternoon off
Sun, Mar 30, 2025, 12:16 PM
Bryant is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: Bryant will take a seat after he went 0-for-8 with three strikeouts while serving as Colorado's designated hitter in the first two games of the season. Hunter Goodman will get a day off from catching duties and spell Bryant as the Rockies' DH.
